What is Breast Reduction???

Breast Reduction [Reduction Mammaplasty, Gynecomastia]

After researching for particular options in plastic surgery, one can only be satisfied with the very best work. Dr William H Gorman is a Board certified and an expert in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery and a specialist in particular areas such as:

Breast Reduction (Reduction Mammaplasty, Gynecomastia) which is a common procedure faced by many women seeking the opposite. Large breasts become the case of physical discomfort like neck, shoulder and back pain or skin rashes that are underneath the breast. A reduction mammaplasty is designed to reduce those uneasiness and improves the on the whole the emergence of your breasts by eradicating the surplus breast tissue and skin, making your breast look smaller and firmer. A similar surgery can be performed on men with enlarged breast tissue called Gynecomastia. These surgeries have some highest rates of patient satisfaction of any plastic surgery measures.

Breast Reduction is a plastic surgery procedure that is usually performed for medical reasons rather than cosmetic purposes in order to make the breasts look smaller lighter and firmer.

Causes of Breast Reduction

Women suffering from severe physical and psychological impacts due to large and heavy breasts are the ones to think about these life enhancing procedures. Symptoms are most difficult when the breast size is extremely uneven to the physique. In addition to the clear physical disorders that pendulous breasts cause they can often direct to considerable emotional distress.

Teens with large breasts are often subjected to teasing or undue sexual attention. Many of them are emotionally scarred by their inability to pursue physical activities or are truly appreciated for their mind over and body.

The Surgery

During the process performed under the general anesthesia, a surgeon removes the excess breast tissues, fats and skin using an anchor shaped incision that circles, the areola and extends downward following the naturally curved breast crease. The nipple and areola are then moved into their new position, and skin from both sides of the breast is reformed around the areola to reshape the breast.

The Recovery

More patients are moving around in a day or so, but are advised not to move heavy objects for a month. It may also ache occasionally for a couple of weeks. Your surgeon will provide you with the detailed instructions regarding the resuming of normal activities.

The Benefit is usually considered as less is more

· Less stress

· Less teasing and unwanted attention

· Elimination of neck, back and shoulder pain

· Ability to run and exercise regularly

· No more rashes numbness and painful bra strap grooving

· A whole new wardrobe

· Newfound confidence

· Easier to detect pre cancerous breast lump.

Breast Lifts [Mastopexy]

Over the years, factors such as pregnancy, nursing and the force of gravity take their toll on a woman’s breast. As the skin looses its elasticity, the breast tends to lose it shape and firmness and starts to sag. Breast Lift is a surgical process to raise and reshape the sagging breasts. Mastopexy also reduces the size of areola, the skin around the nipple. If the breasts are small or have lost volume after pregnancy then implants inserted in conjunction with mastopexy can increase the firmness and the size.

The best candidate

A breast lift can enhance your appearance and self confidence but would not change the looks and/or cause the people to treat you differently.

The best candidates are healthy and emotionally stable who are realistic regarding the surgeries accomplishment. Most of the women seeking mastopexy are due to pregnancy and nursing that has left them with stretched skin and less volume in their breasts. If intending to have more children, postponing your breast lift would be a better idea.

Types of anesthesia

Breast lifts can be carried out with a general anesthesia, where you will sleep through out the operation. Some surgeons uses local anesthesia that makes you drowsy, so that you get hassle-free but awake and may possibly undergo some uneasiness.

The surgery

Mastopexy takes one and half to three and half hours. Methods vary but common methods in an anchor shaped incision subsequent the natural contour of the breasts. The incisions outline the area from which breast skin will be removed and defines the new location for the nipple. When excess skin has been removed, the nipple and areola are moved to the higher position. The skin surrounded the areola is than brought down and together to reshape the breast. Stitches are mostly located around the areola, in a vertical line extending downwards from the nipple area, and along the lower crease of the breast.

Some patients, especially those with relatively small breasts and minimal sagging, may be candidates for modified procedures requiring less extensive incisions. One such procedure is the doughnut or concentric Mastopexy, in which circular incisions are made around the areola and a doughnut-shaped skin is removed.

After Surgery

After the surgery, you will be advised to wear an elastic bandage or a surgical bra over gauze dressing. Your breasts will be bruised swollen and uncomfortable for a day or two but the pain should not be severe.

Within a few days the bandages of the surgical bras are replaced by a soft support bra which needs to be worn around the clock for two to three weeks over a layer of gauze. The stitches will therefore, be removed after a week or two.

If the breast skin is very dry following the surgery than you can apply the moisturizer several times a day. You ca expect some loose feeling in your nipples and breast skin caused by swelling after the surgery. The numbness usually fades as the swelling subsides.

Getting Normal

Curing is a slow but sure course. Your surgeons will supply the detailed instructions in order to resume to your normal duties. You may be instructed to avoid sex for a week or more and avoid strenuous sports for about a month, but gradually you can resume back to normal activities. If you become pregnant the operation should not affect the ability to breast feed, since your milk ducts and nipples will be left intact.

Your New Look

Your surgeons make every attempt to make the scars not noticeable. Mastopexy scars are extensive and permanent. Due to gravity, pregnancy, aging and weight fluctuation, it may have effect on breast lifts. Sometimes women have implants together with breast lifts and the result lasts longer.

The pleasure with a breast lift is going to be superior if you value the process carefully if your hopes are sensible.
